Interior + Exterior Color Consultation in Portland
Why Color Decisions Are Harder Than They Look
Paint color is the single highest-impact, lowest-cost design decision in any home. Get it right and a room sings. Get it wrong and you live with the regret every time you walk through the door. A color consultation is the easiest way to make sure you get it right the first time.
Portland light is different from California light, which is different from East Coast light. The same paint reads cool here that reads warm somewhere else. Pacific Northwest winters bring weeks of soft gray daylight. Summers bring high, intense sun. A color that looks perfect in July often disappears in December. Add in the realities of every home: existing finishes you cannot change, furniture you are keeping, art you have collected, materials and textures that affect color perception. The decision is not just about the paint. It is about the paint in context. Two hours with someone who has chosen hundreds of palettes saves you the cycle of sample cans, second-guessing, and (often) repainting.
We offer two tiers: interior color for paint and finishes inside the home, and exterior color for siding, trim, doors, and accents. Both come with a written palette delivered within 48 hours that you can hand directly to your painter.
Interior Color Consultation
$375 | 2 hours | in-home
Color decisions inside the home are about more than choosing a paint chip. Light shifts through the day. Existing furniture, art, and finishes affect how colors read. The pieces you love most should guide the palette, not fight it.
In a two-hour session, we walk through your space, test samples in your actual light, and finalize colors for paint, trim, ceilings, and any finish decisions that need to align. You leave with a clear written palette you can take straight to your painter.
What’s included:
Pre-session intake form so we arrive prepared
Two hours on-site (or via video if virtual) walking through every space
Color samples and large-format swatches tested in your actual light
Final written palette delivered within 48 hours
Recommendations for sheen, trim, and ceiling treatment
Brand-agnostic guidance (Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Farrow & Ball, and Rodda Paint)
Who It’s For:
Homeowners painting a single room or multiple rooms
Anyone who has bought sample pots three times and still cannot commit
New builds and renovations that need a complete interior palette
Homeowners working with a contractor who needs a clear color list
Exterior Color Consultation
$595 | 3 hours | on-site
Exterior color is a different challenge entirely. The palette has to work with everything that is staying: the roof, stonework, brick, and hardscape that are not changing. It has to hold up in full sun and flat winter light. And it has to feel right for the architecture and the neighborhood, not fight either one.
In a three-hour on-site session, we study the home against its fixed materials and its setting, test colors in the actual light, and finalize siding, trim, door, and accent colors together. You leave with a written palette you can hand straight to your painter.
What’s included:
Pre-session intake form so we arrive prepared
Three hours on-site studying the home in its actual light and setting
Color samples tested against your roof, masonry, and existing materials
Final written palette for siding, trim, doors, and accents delivered within 48 hours
Guidance on sheen and finish for exterior surfaces
HOA-conscious recommendations when an approved palette applies
Brand-agnostic guidance (Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Farrow & Ball, and Rodda Paint)
Who It’s For:
Homeowners repainting or refreshing the exterior
Anyone choosing colors for a new build or major renovation
Homeowners selling who want the exterior to show at its best
Anyone working within HOA color guidelines who needs a palette that complies
